A microform collection of copies of official state death certificates with accompanying name indexes. Indexes may be found on a set of microfilm (RG 51,Microfilm Nos.2826, 2070, 1679, 1850, 2291, 76, 848, 885) or a set of microfiche (index card box at reference desk); the microfilm is both more comprehensive (1912-1943) and legible than the microfiche (1912-1937) with one exception - the fiche is easier to read when looking for certificates dated 1930 and 1931. These indexes are arranged alphabetically by surname, although the alphabetical arrangement for some years (1925-1926, 1930-1943) is determined by Soundex coding. After obtaining the death certificate number from the index, the death certificate itself can be requested at the Media Room reference desk.
Forms part of: Dept of Health Records (formerly RG 51).
