Two-page letter written by Winthrop Sargent, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Jacob Reed, Princeton, New Jersey, on August 31, 1783. Reed was a former member of the Continental Congress from South Carolina and a colonel during the Revolutionary War. Winthrop Sargent's thank-you letter was written in response to the "polite Attention & Kindness" shown to Sargent by Jacob Reed and Mr. Mercer. Sargent's letter also conveyed the compliments of Mrs. House, Mrs. Trist, General Robert Howe, and Captain Hackett for Reed's kind attentions to them. He also stated that Mrs. Trist would personally attend to Reed's business in Philadelphia with a milliner, and Sargent's servant would personally attend to Reed's business in Philadelphia with a tailor.
